Learn about PsychScan

What is PsychScan?

PsychScan is a validated mental health test patients complete online, on their phone or computer. It uses intelligent algorithms to assess eleven DSM-5 disorders, typically in 10 minutes or less. They are the disorders most prevalent in clinical settings, that providers need to know about up front.

Clients receive a personalized Client Report that highlights mental health problem areas where treatment can help. Providers receive a comprehensive Clinician Report with reliable, valid, actionable diagnostic information.

How do our patients access PsychScan?

You send patients a PsychScan link by email or text. They click the link to start the assessment. It's as simple as that. You can also add a PsychScan link or button to your website so patients can access the the assessment right from your website. Patients get a personalized Client Report as soon as they complete the test. Providers receive the comprehensive Clinician Report by secure email or through your Electronic Medical Record (EMR). It’s fast, confidential, and HIPAA compliant.

What disorders does PsycScan assess?

PsychScan assesses the following eleven disorders based on diagnostic criteria specified by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5):
• Major Depression • Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia) • Bipolar Disorder • Generalized Anxiety Disorder • Panic Disorder • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder • Substance Use Disorder • Binge-Eating Disorder • Bulimia Nervosa • Somatic Symptom Disorder) • Psychotic Disorder (optional) PsychScan also screens for emergent issues that may require immediate attention including suicide risk, violence risk, and recent physical or sexual abuse. These feature can be enabled or disabled based on your organization's needs.

How can PsychScan do all this in just 10 minutes?

PsychScan is intelligent. It uses AI to select questions based on responses to previous questions. The algorithms probe in-depth when a disorder may be present. They do not ask irrelevant questions when a disorder is not present. Our intelligent algorithms are unique in the industry. We're so confident in our technology, we've made a fully functional demo available online. Take a test drive and see it in action!

Can PsychScan help grow our client/patient base?

Absolutely. When you add a PsychScan button to your website, you engage with prospective patients from the first online contact. They get immediate feedback about their mental health concerns—and stay on your website instead of browsing to the next.

The personalized Client Report gives prospective patients valuable information they will keep—along with your business or practice name, website URL, and contact information included on the report. It helps patients understand how treatment can help with their specific concerns, and helps overcome initial ambivalence about scheduling that crucial first appointment.

How does PsychScan improve care?

The Clinician Report gives you a comprehensive view of DSM-5 symptoms and diagnoses so you can triage and direct patients to the right providers and services. It gives providers the relevant diagnostic information up front so they can to focus on what's important from the very first meeting. Mental health providers juggle competing demands in the initial session. They need to connect with the patient and build rapport. They also need to do a thorough evaluation and assess a wide range of symptoms. With PsychScan, clinicians don't have to worry they've missed something important. Instead of reviewing lists of symptoms and disorders, they can focus on providing care.

Are the results valid?

Yes. PsychScan has excellent sensitivity and specificity. It was validated against the SCID structured clinical interview, considered the gold standard for psychiatric diagnosis.

PsychScan is the newest version of a mental health test that has been in continuous use by major healthcare organizations for more than 20 years, previously called the QPD Panel. PsychScan brings this prove, time-tested technology to your virtual or in-person clinic. Read more about the science, below.

What information is in the Clinician Report?

The Clinician Report is designed for maximum user-friendliness. It is based on extensive research on the practical, day to day needs of both medical and non-medical healthcare providers. The report includes applicable DSM-5 and ICD-10 diagnoses, a list of the reported symptoms leading to each diagnosis, and numeric scores that measure symptom severity in eight domains (ideal for progress monitoring and outcome assessment). The report optionally flags emergent issues that may need immediate attention including suicide risk, violence risk, and recent physical or sexual abuse. Check out the sample Clinician Report. Better yet, take the test and get a personalized report based on your own responses.

What about outcome assessment?
